Offline tool use

An AI-assisted health tool for communities with little or no internet.

Role
Design research, prototyping
Methods
In-depth user interviews, prototype testing, thematic analysis
Offline health tool prototype
Prototype for low-connectivity communities.

Question

This project was under NDA. Most digital health tools assume a steady connection. Many people who most need care live where the signal drops, data is expensive or the nearest clinic is hours away. What would an AI health tool look like if it were designed to work offline first?

Approach

We built a working prototype that runs without a constant connection, then tested it through in-depth interviews with the people it was meant to serve. The interviews shaped what the tool should do, what it should leave to people, and how it should fit into the way care already happens in a community.

Why it matters

Technology only helps if people can reach it and trust it. Weak infrastructure shaped whether people were willing to try new tools at all. Designing for offline use starts from that reality instead of assuming it away.
